Another One To The Pile
July 29th, 2009A couple days ago, Amazon had a videogame deal of the day that was for Madworld. I rented the game a month or two back, and enjoyed it. So I thought I should just pick it up and add it to the pile.
Madworld is from Platinum Games, whose petigree is from their former studio, Clover Studio who made Viewtiful Joe and Okami. Madworld is an extremely violent game, but a fun one that doesn't take itself seriously at all. It has a great looking black and white art style where blood is the only thing that has color. It's always nice to add a Wii exclusive, because there aren't many worth getting, in my opinion.
I think it was a great pick up, and I'm definitely excited to sink some time into this.

Yeah, I know. I fell into the hype. After some really positive reviews, I couldn't help myself. I am a new owner of Wii Sports Resort, and a second Wii Motion Plus controller. I wonder if they will ever release a peripheral that I won't buy.
The game looks great, and there are a lot more sports than the original Wii pack-in game, Wii Sports.
I have to say that when this game was first unveiled at E3 '08, I was unimpressed, and thought that this was another cash in, but with the reviews and previews looking like they have been, I can admit that I was wrong about the end product.

Best Buy's clearence sale keeps on giving, they had a pretty good deal on the Spiderman Game Web of Shadows, only $10. The price was too good to pass up. Has anyone played it yet? Let me know in the comments what you thought of the game, I still havent broken the plastic wrap.
The reviews weren't very good, but I think I'll give it a chance, eventually.

A couple weeks ago, I wrote about my local Best Buy having some clearance videogames on sale, and I bought Lost: Via Domus. I was able to pick up a couple other games.
I was a big fan of the first Viva Piñata, about a garden of Piñatas that are different animal shapes with cute names like the Mousemallow and Buzzlegum.
Viva Piñata: Trouble In Paradise, seems to be a bit of a rehash for the people who missed it the first round, but adds some new Piñatas and 2 new areas, a desert and arctic setting.
I have only played it a little bit, but so far it's been fun to level up my garden. I never thought I would say that.

Sometimes waiting for a game to come down in price is a good thing. When Mercenaries 2 was first shown by Pandemic Studios, I was so excited and thought it was a day one purchase for me. The reviews were luck warm at best, so I thought it probably didn't warrant the full $60 price tag.
The first Mercenaries on the PS2 and Xbox was a fun open world game were you do the dirty work of war for the highest bidder. It looks like the second Mercs game is more of the same with more destructible buildings and more explosions; two pluses in my book.
If you've played the game, let me know what you thought about it in the comments.

I was able to get Prototype for a really great deal through Gamefly. The reviews have been mixed, but it looks like a game that I'd really enjoy.
Prototype has been getting many comparisons to inFamous, but they seem like two very different games. I've added this one to the pile, and hopefully, sometime soon, I can knowledgeably compare the two.
